Learn & Play Duel Masters TCG — Southeast Asia

Duel Masters was designed by Wizards of the Coast, the makers of Magic: The Gathering, and it has run in Japan for over 25 years. If you play any modern TCG, most of your instincts carry over. Here is the translation table.
| Lands | Mana Zone — but any card can be placed as mana, once per turn. Mana screw does not exist. |
| 5 colors | 5 Civilizations: Fire, Water, Nature, Light, Darkness. The color pie will feel instantly familiar. |
| Life total | 5 Shields — face-down cards. Damage is discrete, not numeric. |
| Instants / flash | Shield Trigger — free spells that fire when a shield breaks. Defense is baked into your deck construction. |
| Creatures, tapping, attacking | Nearly identical. Summoning sickness exists too. |
The biggest mental shift: attacking is a real decision. Every shield you break becomes a card in your opponent's hand, and might be a free Shield Trigger. Racing has a cost here.
| Life Points | 5 Shields — you lose them as cards, not numbers, and each one might fight back. |
| Trap cards | Shield Trigger — the surprise factor you love, built into your defense automatically. |
| No resource system | Duel Masters has a mana system, so games ramp up turn by turn instead of exploding on turn one. |
| Tribute / special summon | Cost reduction and "cheat into play" mechanics exist (Hyper Energy, Yobinion and friends) — the combo itch is well fed. |
What Yu-Gi-Oh players tend to enjoy most: turns are fast and attacks matter, but the mana curve gives every game a build-up you can plan around.
| Life cards | You already know Shields — One Piece's Life system descends from this exact mechanic. Duel Masters is where it came from. |
| DON!! | Mana Zone — except you build it from your own cards, so deck-building decides your resources. |
| Counter cards | Shield Trigger and Blocker — both defense styles exist and both are deck-building choices. |
| Leader | No leader card. Your strategy lives in the 40-card deck itself. |
